Hello Momma!
I have officially (and finally) launched my blog for all things Momma related! Over the past year and a half (like what really took me this long to post? It’s not like I had a baby or anything) I have been putting together a blog of my experience since finding out I was pregnant. I did not anticipate waiting this long to post it but over time I realized that I wanted to include a lot more content in the hopes of reaching more mommas in some way or another. It was an interesting journey to say the least, and I hope that, in some way, my experience and the mommas that I connect with, is helpful for you! I am currently 10 months postpartum, but these blogs were written in real time. So you’ll get the inside scoop at each stage of the game.. and I hope one day I am actually posting in real time.. better get my act together.
So what can you expect on the blog? Well I basically take you through some of the ways I took care of myself during my pregnancy and postpartum. Some of the content you may connect with and there may be some that you do not. Everyone’s journey is different but my hope is to share mine and hear more about yours. Cultivating a community of mommas supporting mommas is my goal. Motherhood can be isolating at times, so it is important that we continue to seek out other people who we can build connections with and discover that we are not alone in this process. That all being said, I have structured my posts to talk about different themes based on the day of the week. If you’ve already taken a peak at the blog content, you’ll see I have already posted what my typical posts will be like.
If you’ve read my “about me” page you already know a bit about my social location and the lens I write through. I have a social work educational and career background and much of my worldview has been impacted by that over the last few years. Therefore, with each theme and month of pregnancy/postpartum, I start with “Mindfulness Monday”. I usually talk about what has been going on for me during that time in pre & postnatal life, what others have told me they experience and why it is important to really be mindful during those periods of time. On “Tip Tuesday”, I like to talk about a product I love or something other mommas have taught me, self-care tips, you name it, Tuesday’s talking about it. “Workout Wednesday” will showcase some of the exercises I did pre & postnatal. Now, as with anything else, you should workout the way that your body allows. This is just to show you some of the things I did during my pregnancy, but it is not a one-size-fits-all. You need to know your body, know your limits and always talk to a doctor about what you should be doing for your body and baby. On “Throwback Thursday” we get a glimpse into what exactly was going on in the past for me. So yes, I am writing in real time, posting in the future.. confusing enough? But my throwbacks will be from different times during my life. I feel as though you cannot simply discuss your present without sometimes connecting to the past, so it will be a combination of various times throughout my life that are of importance. On “Foodie Friday” I talk about various foods I was eating (or indulging in) but also provide various recipes to help you get through the months. A side little project of mine has always been creating healthy recipes, so I like to share those on the blog to help anyone who also needs some go-to healthy snacks. On “Support Saturday” we reconnect with our mindfulness Monday topics and really focus in on support for mommas. It is so important that we recognize how much social support can benefit mommas pre and postnatal. So I hope these posts spark conversation and you find it helpful in some way. On “Sunday Funday”, you never know what you’re going to get! It could be a fun activity, some creative ideas, DIY, other mommas coming on to guest blog. You never really know… so stay tuned for all the fun.
Why do I include all of these different themes in my blog? Seems like a bit much maybe? Well, they all really apply to the various aspects of my life and how I coped during pregnancy and in the fourth trimester (often the forgotten part of the birth story). During my pregnancy, I did my best to eat well and workout whenever I felt good enough to do so. I was often tired and sick during the first trimester and third, so it truly impacted these areas of my life, and I had to make adjustments in order to keep up. I found it difficult to always eat well, especially when all I could keep down was a bagel, which, prior to pregnancy I would not usually gravitate towards. When I found out I was pregnant, it was just a month after my wedding, so I had come off of a strict meal plan and work out regiment and was finally enjoying a variety of foods again (junk with the occasional glass of wine)…. Only to find out I was pregnant and my body was adamant that I no longer liked certain foods or the smell of food the majority of the time, talk about food aversions. Don’t even get me started (now, but I will address it in the blog at a later date). This truly impacted so many facets of my life and I felt that I would be potentially connecting with more people if I shared all of the aspects of my self-care, rather just throwing out random bits and pieces. As always, I will hope to grow along the way in this journey of blogging, and maybe that will change. But for now, I hope that it is useful in some way to you, Momma!
As I continue down this little journey, I continue to recognize my passion for learning from and sharing with other mommas. I only hope to continue to grow and discuss perinatal mental health and support. To find out more about my interest in this field, you can read the “about me” section of the blog. You’ll be able to keep up to date on new blog posts via our Instagram account @mommashealthyhub, so be sure to follow us there!
What started out as a simple journal entry to remember this experience, turned into a whole new world for me. It has not always easy, but man it has been worth it!
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my blog and I hope you find it helpful in some way. I’d be happy to hear from you on any content you’d like me to write about, because I have many stories to tell.
Also, in case someone hasn’t already told you today, you’re amazing Momma!
Lisha
